Did you know conditioning your thread with beeswax or microcrystalline wax before stitching prevents tangling, fraying, and knots — especially with longer strands? It can even add a little structure to dimensional pieces. Everyone has their preferences about whether or not to condition their thread. Personally, I am an unconditional thread conditioner, I mean, WAXER!... I even wax my Fireline! If you see the thread conditioners in my stash, you will notice that one side is "clean" and the other looks dark...the Smoke color of Fireline is coated with graphite. Be sure to wipe off the graphite of this color of Fireline with a tissue or dryer sheet to prevent the grey color from transferring where it isn't wanted. Also, Fireline is actually difficult to cut and can ruin a normal pair of snips. There are cutters created specifically for difficult to cut materials and they are available at Foxy Squirrel. However, one of our favorite teachers showed us that plain Fiskars for school-aged kids are an excellent and inexpensive alternative!
